Oklahoma Town of 336 Starts High School Football Team

by Jeff Fisher
Oklahoma High School Football Huddle

As many of you already know, I love small town high school.

If you don't check-out High School Football America, and you'll learn quickly that small towns hold a special place in my heart.

Now with all of that being said, I love this story from Scripps News about a tiny town of 336 people starting its first-ever football team.  Gracemont High School will play an independent 8-man schedule this season.

Last season, High School Football America visited East Central High School in tiny Miles, Iowa...population 462...and witnessed what an 8-man program can mean to a community.  Click here to check-out that story.

Jenks HS Football Coach Reinstated

by Jeff Fisher
Oklahoma High School Football Huddle

The suspension of Jenks head football coach is over.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association has lifted the suspension it imposed on Allan Trimble last fall for violating states recruiting rules.

According to KOCO TV, the state's athletic governing body also reinstated Timble's assistant David Alexander, who was suspended at the same time.  The station is also reporting that the OSSAA didn't take any action on the suspension of former Booker T. Washington head coach Antwain Jimmerson, who was not able to attend his suspension hearing.

Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association to Decide Fate of Jenks Head Football Coach

by Jeff Fisher
Oklahoma High School Football Huddle

Suspended Jenks High School football coach Allan Trimble is appearing before the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association today to ask the state's athletic governing body to lift its suspension that took the nine-time state champion coach from the sidelines last fall.

Tulsa World reporter Matt Baker writes that Trimble's reinstatement isn't a formality.

Last October, the OSSAA suspended Trimble indefinitely and forfeited eight wins from Jenks' 2008 season after the program admitted it violated OSSAA residency and recruiting rules.

Trimble isn't the only one trying to get reinstated today.  Former Booker T. Washington head football coach Antwain Jimmerson is also scheduled to appear before the OSSAA.

Jimmerson was suspended last year for recruiting and academic rules violations.

Check back with the Oklahoma High School Football Huddle later today for the outcome of the hearings.

Spring Football Practice in Oklahoma

by Jeff Fisher
Oklahoma High School Football Huddle

With teams across the state taking part in spring football practice, I went on a search for stories across the web.

The two schools that I present today are definitely polar opposites when it comes to their football programs, but there both dealing with similar situations.

Both 6A champ Union and tiny Little Axe are teams without a field, albeit for different reasons.

Tulsa World reports that Union, which will be looking for the three-peat in 2010, is practicing at Tulsa's Chapman Stadium on the campus of the University of Tulsa because FieldTurf is being installed at Union-Tuttle Stadium.

Then there's Little Axe, which is coming-off its best season ever at 8-3, trying to literally pick-up the pieces after a tornado on May 10th severely damaged its football field.

The Oklahoman reports that the Indians may not play a home game in 2010 because funding to rebuild the stadium may be hard to find in these economic times.
